Research Blog: Music Video Conventions
My group is doing a Selena Gomez & The Scene pop song, titled “Who Says.” This type of song usually portrays elated emotions as well as lifting people up throughout music videos.
CLAMPS
People in videos like these usually wear casual clothes, accessories, sunglasses, layering, and shorts. The hairstyle is usually let down. Men usually wear hats.
Their makeup is soft. Including mascara, lip gloss, eyeliner, and neutral eye shadow.
The lighting is usually vibrant or soft. It may look vintage, filtered, grainy, and a yellow tint.
The people in videos usually act happy and let loose. Many people are also dancing.
The props used in alike pop videos are hairbrushes, lipsticks, balloons, microphones, phones, mirrors, shoes/heels being held, and cameras.
The setting is usually outdoors, stores, restaurants, etc. There is a variety of settings in one video. For example, a setting could be a party.

Soundtrack: This is the music sung by the artist.
Ambient sounds: These represent background noises, such as texting, cars, wind, etc.
