Production Blog: Filming Day Second Half

Image
Horror movies usually have a dark and scary theme. Due to this my group thought it would be ideal to start filming for the movie at night. No one was available nor wanted to do 2 days of filming though. Everyone came to the conclusion that it would be better to stay at Lili's house all day to film. In total everyone spent around 10 hours at Lili's house to film. Though the last few hours when the sun went down is when filming really picked up. The first filmed scene was when all the friends were talking. Hannah whose Briana's sister helped film this scene since everyone was in it. This scene wad really fun to do but kind of challenging because of the acting. The next scene was when everyone besides Briana had to run down the stairs and outside. This scene actually really scared me because I had socks on and didn't want to slip on the stairs. It took a few takes but I was able to overcome this and the shot turned out pretty good. When the filming moved to outside it was

Finally everything worked out and my group could start filming. The process went on as scheduled and everyone met up at Lili's house around 12:00. The day was planned to be a really one day of filming. Due to this everyone decided it would be best to meet up earlier in the day and have some fun instead of meeting later and just filming. The first thing done when everyone got to Lili's house was eat. After that there was a discussion about what everyone should start doing first. It turned out that taking the picture needed to put in the frame would be the best scene to film first. The picture played an important part so it made sense to just take it and let Lili's mother print it while the group films other scenes. While the picture was getting printed the scene with Lili waking up was filmed. Hannah filmed this specific scene and it only took about 4 takes. This was because the movie requires a little bit more acting than the music video. After this the scene where all the

Production Blog: Costumes

The film that my group is doing is a horror film. The interesting part about this is that there isn't necessarily a set costume for horror films. If it was a coming of age movie then there would be a better guideline for what to wear. However, people get killed wearing anything. This poses the question "what to wear during a horror movie?" It should be something easy to move in. The reason for this being because the actors are going to have to run from the killer. The film unfortunately doesn't have stereotyped characters. This means that there's no geek for example who can wear a button up for no reason. Instead everyone in the film is supposed to be a normal girl. So what do normal girls wear? My group came to the conclusion that a t-shirt and pants would be fine. Since the filming is at night, in order for our clothes to be visible everyone would have to wear a lighter color. The only for sure costume is pajamas. I was just going to wear pajama pants and a whit

Production Blog: Change of Plans

Image
Making plans for filming is hard in general. It becomes increasingly harder when you add spring break to the equation. Most people travel for spring break. If you're not traveling then you're probably very busy before, during, or after break. There's then of course people who have a mix of both these situations. Unfortunately my group is currently stuck in this situation. Lili has a job and Brianna just isn't available all the time. Aside from this I have to travel during break. It would've been easier to work out if we didn't have mandatory blogs each Monday and Thursday. These blogs must include at least 2 filming and 2 editing blogs. There's no way to complete these blogs without actually meeting up and getting the filming process over with. Therefore, all of our plans have changed. The group set a general timeline of during break. All these blogs mean that it has to be narrowed down. ALOT. The original date was March 21st. Then I got extremely shocking

The film is supposed to use many different props. It was a very long and tedious process to decide what props to use. There were also situations where we wanted to use props but they were to expensive to get or wouldn't get here in time. Props can make a big difference in a movie so this was a very hard choice to make. A definite prop needed in the movie was a knife. The problem was my group didn't know whether to use a real knife or a fake one. Using a real knife poses an obvious safety hazard especially when kids are using it to pretend kill each other. The next choice would be a fake one. The only downside is it of course looks very fake. The group came to the conclusion after a discussion that a real knife would be better and everyone would just have to be really cautious while using it. The next proposed prop was a record player. It got scrapped very quickly since it really wasn't needed and was pretty expensive. Another definite prop this movie needs is blood. There

My group and I chose to use the song "Tiptoe through the Tulips" during our movie. I already knew the song since I learned it on the ukulele. When the group was suggesting songs it did take a while for us to pick this one though. Everyone had different wants when it came to the song. As a collective many songs were reviewed and either scraped or put on a maybe list. It was agreed that the song would be creepy but that's still a very broad field. I suggested this song and it was kind of put back on the drawing board due to not being that popular. When everyone sat down and listened to the song together it became clear that it was going to be our final choice. This song also has it's own kind of spooky element to it that would enhance the movie. It's simple and should a nice song but yet the way it's sung leaves the listener just a tad bit unsettled. This is a good trait for a horror movie song to have.  Another good thing about this song was that it's roya
