Pitch A: A girl experiences the five stages of friendship which are suddenly torn when they once again become strangers. 

  • We produced this because we felt it was relatable. Being a group of friends, naturally our first thought was to make a film about friends. The 5 stages add depth, and we were thinking of adding an aspect of internal conflict to the film. This is usually an integral thing for movies. Though it was our first film idea it was not our preferred choice. This idea, when compared to the others, seems a little bland and slow moving. 

 
 

   Pitch B: An abduction occurs, leaving a sister empty and grieving until she finds a new perspective of life, however the past still haunts her. 
 

  • We created this pitch because it sounded realistic. Many people do face that reality, so we thought portraying that would be impressive and awakening. This pitch is creative, unpacks a prominent issue, and sounds doable. However, it may be difficult to portray all of us as main characters in the film, which is one of our priorities. Furthermore, even finding a location we can use would be difficult because the best option would be to use the set of our school, but we cannot do that. Even though this pitch sounds enticing it sounds dramatic and generic.  
     

Pitch C: A group of friends get into a car crash, then believe to have woken up from a coma to find no living soul. 
 

  • We would be interested in making this film because we find the storyline alluring and entertaining. Moreover, because this pitch is more complex than the others, there would be more content to include within those five minutes than with the other pitches. Although we have the structure ready, we are still figuring out the specifics and details of the story.  

  

     Overall, we decided to go with the mysterious pitch (Pitch C), because it seemed like the most exciting and unique option. All of us believe that it would be the most amusing to watch and record, which will produce a captivating plot for the audience. For now, we have a minor plan and a few ideas for this film that we feel could grow into a stunning outcome. We will go to a multitude of locations as this will make the 5-minutes even more diverse and distinctive. To sum it up, we chose this pitch because all of us feel the most comfortable with this pitch and have a strong notion that this pitch will provide us with a high-quality product.

    Finally, the video is done. I would've never thought that making a 2 minute movie would be this hard. I really had to use all the skills I learned throughout the year for the project to turn out how it did. However, the experience itself was a mix between stressful and fun. There were many unexpected twists and turns. From spring break to travel plans and just general bumps in the road. Almost everything that could go wrong did. But there were also  good moments where we were able to come together have fun and film. In these moments everyone got to showcase their individual filming and movie skills. Overall, the process behind this movie was crazy, hectic, but also really fun. I can't wait for you guys to see it!

Short Film Research: Checkpoint/Thriller

  Regarding the camera angles, movements and shots, this short film has plenty of them. For instance, it includes a three-shot, showing the family members in the car, to make the audience familiar with them and somewhat get attached. Moreover, it also contains a wide shot, showing the famil y’s environment to show the audience where it takes place, and to enhance the fact that there is no one else besides them and the officers. Additionally, the tracking shot of the dad getting into the car is being used to highlight his emotions. Finally, it includes a low angle of the officer that makes him seem superior and overpowerin g.   When it comes to sound, this short film uses dialogue, to build a conflict between the family and the officers, which helps reach the climax. Short Film: Thriller

  The movie contains a lot of hand-held shots along with two-shots. For instance, there was a scenario where the protagonist was having a realization that something was off with a women's husband.  It documented the manner the man was looking around cautiously and worried.  These specific shots can be used to show the audience what is happening in the action as it is happening and to simply illustrate the movements of the characters. The utilization of cutaway shots was also common. For instance, the protagonist woke up and the shots cut from him to a man making breakfast demonstrating his alertness. Cutaway shots are used to create tension and suspense. These shots are quick glimpses of something that is not immediately relevant to the main action of the scene, but that adds to the overall feeling of unease and uncertainty.
