Planning Blog

Props: Because my group and I are producing a JanSport commercial, our main props are JanSport backpacks. This will include various designs and colors. To pursue this and be able to include several JanSport backpacks, we will ask for permission from other students to use it in the commercial. Additional props that will be included are notebooks, a water bottle, a binder, and a volleyball.

Costumes: In this commercial, there will be multiple people participating, and each one of them will be wearing clothes that students casually wear during school, such as jeans, cropped or loose shirts, and sneakers. We also want the uniform to be vintage, therefore we could be wearing flannels or large long-sleeved shirts. The part under the waist could be any form of jeans or pants. Furthermore, at the beginning of the advertisement, the camera will start at an angle where it only shows the feet of two or three people. Therefore, they should wear high top shoes to fit the mood.

Schedule:

On 9/29/2021, our group will create the storyboard for the 30-second commercial.

On 10/1/2021, our group will do our first day of shooting where we will record as much as we envision.

On 10/5/2021, our group will do our second and last day of shooting where we will see the shots that are missing and do any finishing touches.

On 10/7/2021, our group will have all our takes and see which ones are the best to put together and create the retro/vintage mood.

On 10/11/2021, our group will do any last touches to complete our commercial and fit the 30-second mark.

Location List: Most of the clips will be filmed at different locations due to the idea we have in mind of passing the backpacks from one person to another which will lead to there being various locations. The places we have in mind are any place we can find stairs such as around the auditorium, a location near building 5, 17, or 21, and the sitting area in the senior patio.

Backup Plan: We made a few backup plans in case things don't go as planned. For instance, in case it rains on the days that we are filming, and we were to film underneath an uncovered area, we will move to a dry, covered place. Additionally, if one of the presenters looks informal, they will be removing any baggy clothing such as sweatshirts or jackets. Finally, if the audio is not heard well when passing the bookbag, we will change the acting to being them covering their mouth and telling the other person what is being said close to the ear, as if it were a secret. After this, we will do a voiceover.

Camera Angles: We will be filming at a low-level angle for the first shot of showing the legs and down with the backpack hanging. Then we will film at eye-level for the rest of the commercial.

Camera Movement: We will be using the tracking shot technique for the last shot when the main character, Leila (a made-up name), is going up the stairs after she has received her backpack. The pan shot will be used from time to time.

Shots: During the shooting process, we will mostly be doing medium long shots, with potentially a three- or two-shot, and we will try to film an over-the-shoulder shot for the scene when Leila is receiving her backpack. Also, we will be taking multiple shots of the same scenes in order to make sure that we will have backup scenes in case some of the clips don't turn out well.

Sound: In this commercial, the sounds will mostly consist of dialogue, ambient sounds, and the soundtrack music that we will be choosing.

Editing: Because we want to give our commercial a vintage aspect, we will try to add a filter to make it seem like it was filmed a long time ago. In addition, we will shoot all the scenes that are supposed to be taken at the same place together, even if it is not chronological. Then, during the editing process, we will place them in the correct order, that way we will save time.
