    My group is doing a JanSport commercial. To research this project, we watched several different backpack commercials. In the official Patagonia commercials, there were relationships between the backpack and the location of the video. For instance, in one of the commercials we watched the actor was hiking in the woods due to the fact that Patagonia is a backpack that is made for long trudges. In the official JanSport video there was also a link between the commercial and their slogan which is “Discover Freedom.” This is as a result of the backpack being used in films to go to various locations. Additionally, it was shown by having kids run around, skateboard, and sneak out of their house with the backpack on. JanSport has great credibility when it comes to being durable too. They showed this in one of their commercials by having kids throw and drag the bookbag throughout different scenes. To further our knowledge, we also watched an Adidas backpack commercial. Since Adidas is a brand usually associated with sports, they included these types of activities in the video. For example, they had an adolescent play basketball with hip-hop music playing in the background, which is heavily associated with these sorts of commercials. Lastly, a lot of the shots used in these commercials were tracking as they followed the people throughout their day. Below includes some of the several features we observed in the Jansport commercials.

·       In these JanSport advertisements, the actors usually wear common outfits that you may wear to school, which may consist of shorts, pants, skirts, cropped or loose shirts, and sneakers.

·       Music greatly affects the audience in these videos. Therefore, upbeat and uplifting music is the most commonly used because it makes the public feel satisfied and motivated with the product.

·       These advertisements usually take place outdoor and in academic spaces, such as parks or schools. This gives the sense of the backpack being cool but simple.

·       The films usually exhibit friends hanging out, playing sports, walking, and running. As stated before, they could also be seen riding skateboards or even bicycles.

 

1.     The JanSport logo is simply the name of the brand in a rectangular box. It has multiple slogans, such as “We’ve got your back,” “Discover Freedom” and “The Forever Backpacks.” This shows the audience that their bags are durable, efficient, and can be taken anywhere. .     Most of the time, the commercials use ethos to show credibility. For instance, they are willing to go to certain lengths to prove that their product is good quality and is worth buying. Additionally, another way ethos is often revealed is by showing celebrities wearing the brand and promoting it.

2.     Most of their commercials show the perfect angle which is the front of the bag. This allows people to see and recognize the name of the brand during the advert.
