 1.      How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

It uses conventions by showing the variety of bookbags and using different locations which are common in bookbag commercials. It challenged conventions by not having the bookbag thrown around since I didn't want to damage anyone's real bookbag. There also wasn't any skateboarding since the commercial was filmed on campus during school and students aren't allowed to skateboard on campus. While kids were shown there also wasn't a large group of them like typical JanSport commercials because only kids in my class at the time could be in the video and everyone else was filming. The commercial represents social groups like teenagers. It does this by being shot on a campus, showing Lili running upstairs at the end, and having a bell ring in the beginning. The scene where Lili drops all her textbooks also represents teenagers because they usually do carry a lot of textbooks.

 2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

It engages with the audience by having catchy upbeat music play off the bat. The opening scene also foreshadows what the commercial will be about by just having the bookbag in the scene. This creates suspense that will probably cause someone to want to watch further in order to see what will happen. The ringing bell at the beginning also captures attention causing the person to watch. The bell will cause the person watching to continue in order to find out why it rang and what is or will happen. It would be distributed as commercials on streaming sites like Hulu, Peacock, and Paramount plus. These were chosen because the target audience is teens and most teens watch streaming sites. It would also be distributed on prime-time TV because most people watch TV during that time. Next, it would also be distributed on social media such as Tiktok, Instagram, and Facebook because these are apps all ages are on at almost all times.

 3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

My production skills developed greatly during this project. I started out with no background in filming and knew nothing above common knowledge about it. Storyboards were actually the only thing I both knew and did before this project. I first learned what shots, takes, and scenes were along with all the different types and was then able to do a decent amount of them throughout the duration of this project. Some of the shots I learned about and then did in this video were a tracking shot and a close-up shot. I also learned about costumes which came in handy because I had to remember to wear the same thing for each scene. I also learned about editing and sound during this process. I never knew how important sound was during filming and getting it to be just how you want it. All around this project was very educational and helped develop my production skills a lot.

 4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

I integrated technologies by using Lenovo school laptops to search for examples of commercials in order to figure out how bookbag commercials usually work. I then used my Hp laptop at home to do all the blogs required for this product. For filming my groupmate Angie's Phone 11 was used for filming and everything was shared either on a word doc, through iPhone airdrop, or over WhatsApp. For editing software called Capcut on an Ipad was used. The project was also posted on YouTube at the very end.
