Production blog- Filming Again!

 Today we were finally able to film again!. Things were a little crazy and didn’t really happen like I had wanted but it is what it is. Usually everyone rides with Angie to go to Lili’s house but that didn’t happen together. My mom wanted my sister to take me there since she was already in the area so I couldn’t ride with Angie and Lili. Hannah also left with her mom since she needed to get her bag with her change of clothes. Lili ended up being the only one to ride with Angie. Everyone also had to get food before starting to film. Since the group didn’t ride together it took a lot longer than it usually does. Due to this filming started later than it was intended. It also turned out that Lili had to babysit by six so filming needed to be done by around 5:40. In my opinion this was not enough time to film at all. There was no other option though so the group made it work. The first stop was Publix in order to film the first scene of the day. Once everyone arrived Lili got a basket and filled it to use it as a prop so it seemed as if Chloe was actually shopping. Then, the group spend a lot of time looking for an isle with not a lot of people or employees in it. Everyone was scared of being kicked out for filming and even contemplated going somewhere else. The cat food isle was the only one that seemed to fit our criteria. The scene turned out to be reallly challenging to film. For one the store was very crowded making it hard to hear. Then the angles were also hard to do since no one wanted Hannah’s back to be towards the camera the entire time. This was probably the longest time it took to film a scene in the process so far. The solution to this issue was to do multiple cuts and have the actors wear airpods. The AirPods worked great but there was a problem with Hannah’s hair. Since it was down it moved a lot so in every take her hair looked different. Sadly after all the time it took to film this scene there was no time to do my others.

    Finally, the video is done. I would've never thought that making a 2 minute movie would be this hard. I really had to use all the skills I learned throughout the year for the project to turn out how it did. However, the experience itself was a mix between stressful and fun. There were many unexpected twists and turns. From spring break to travel plans and just general bumps in the road. Almost everything that could go wrong did. But there were also  good moments where we were able to come together have fun and film. In these moments everyone got to showcase their individual filming and movie skills. Overall, the process behind this movie was crazy, hectic, but also really fun. I can't wait for you guys to see it!

Short Film Research: Checkpoint/Thriller

  Regarding the camera angles, movements and shots, this short film has plenty of them. For instance, it includes a three-shot, showing the family members in the car, to make the audience familiar with them and somewhat get attached. Moreover, it also contains a wide shot, showing the famil y’s environment to show the audience where it takes place, and to enhance the fact that there is no one else besides them and the officers. Additionally, the tracking shot of the dad getting into the car is being used to highlight his emotions. Finally, it includes a low angle of the officer that makes him seem superior and overpowerin g.   When it comes to sound, this short film uses dialogue, to build a conflict between the family and the officers, which helps reach the climax. Short Film: Thriller

  The movie contains a lot of hand-held shots along with two-shots. For instance, there was a scenario where the protagonist was having a realization that something was off with a women's husband.  It documented the manner the man was looking around cautiously and worried.  These specific shots can be used to show the audience what is happening in the action as it is happening and to simply illustrate the movements of the characters. The utilization of cutaway shots was also common. For instance, the protagonist woke up and the shots cut from him to a man making breakfast demonstrating his alertness. Cutaway shots are used to create tension and suspense. These shots are quick glimpses of something that is not immediately relevant to the main action of the scene, but that adds to the overall feeling of unease and uncertainty.
